Interview with Ms. Angie Ballesteros

- Are you Happy with your job?
Of course , I'm very happy, because its like being paid with something
you love to do, my advice is that when you grow up you should do something
that you love.
- Do you plan to work on this job all your life? Is this your dream job?
Im not sure, but at the moment I'm really enjoying what I'm doing, because I
always thought of teaching at college, but at the moment I'm also with the high
school students, so its very nice at the same time I can teach them in some
ways. And yes this is my dream job.
- What are some of the projects that you are most proud of / fond
of?
I am most proud of the Tugon volunteer program, cuz when I first entered
I remembered that there were only 3 volunteers, but now there are 60
volunteers but only 20 of them are active. But these very active volunteers,
they do a lot of things, like we have the sulong aral , come tugon, the
disaster respond, because we really need tugon volunteers, because we're
only 4 in this office, and we really need Tugon volunteers to really be able
to do this job, and these Tugon volunteers are not only students, but also
faculty, staff and the administrators, and sometimes parent volunteers.
- Is this job tiring? How?
Yes., yes its a very tiring job, because its not like just a 8-5 job,
although a lot go home at 5, some go home at 5, but we like, the disaster
respond, sometimes, like the last time we had a disaster respond we went to
Quezon, and we went there on a Saturday and a Sunday, so we still work at
the weekends, to do work and sometimes we overnight like the medical mission
its not just an 8-5 job, its an overnight job.
- How do you manage your work life with your private life?
I enjoy what I'm doing, its like your doing your hobby, in our work we go
in different places like Quezon, Mindoro, Laguna, like in Laguna we are able
to visit a lot of places and we get to interact with a lot of people after
interacting with them we becaome friends, sometimes after work, we get to
interact with other La Salle schools like, La Salle Benilde , and La Salle
Taft, after work we interact and bond, we just make sure that with
everything that we do we have fun.
- What inspired you in this path of helping others?
Of course St. La Salle, our work, you get to help the people, this gives
you a good feeling helping people of your own blood, and the students they
inspire me, we see in them that they are willing to give up their Saturdays
even there’s no grade, I’m just inspired by them and are happy when ever I’m
with them.
- Was this your 1st choice for a job? What made go with this job?
Yes. because I want to be a social worker or a teacher, and here at La
Salle I get to do both, I get to teach and do social work
- How will you inspire the youth to do what you are doing?
When ever I talk to the volunteers I always tell them to do what you want
to do, like here in Tugon, you can't just be a volunteer, you can be chorale
and still be a volunteer, or you could be an athlete and still be a
volunteer, so you cannot be just a volunteer, you have to do something else,
too, because when you're happy with what you are doing, it tends to show,
and I can inspire them by example, in order to really help this people, you
really have to give, we also invite them to be with us and not just donate.
